There are two very exciting field trips planned this spring.
April 30, we will go on an Ag Adventure at University of California at Davis. This trip is free and will focus on the vast careers in the leading industry of California agriculture. I need some risk takers who are willing to explore the various career options in business, marketing, technology, medicine, bio-tech, research and agricultural production. Students will be amazed to learn that a career in agriculture doesn’t necessarily mean farming. This trip is open to all grades, but students must be serious, open minded students.
May 15 is the College Survivor Trip to CSU Stansilaus for high achieving freshmen and sophomores. This trip is free and will focus on the TV show Survivor style activities that help students understand the value of going to college. If you are interested in learning more about a four year college visit the Career Center to pick up a permission slip. Open to the first 20 freshmen and the first 20 sophomores who turn in their permission slips.
From the Career Center
A celebration of achievement
The Class of 2001 Senior Awards Ceremony will be held June 4th at 7 p.m. in the gym for all seniors. This gala event will recognize all scholarships, honors, and awards for the Class of 2001. Seniors have been asked to fill out a form that tells us what their plans are for next year, with a space to list any scholarships, grants, awards or honors they have received. Please contact Cindy Cutts in the Career Center with any information regarding your senior's achievements. Or e-mail Cindy at ccutts@rocklin.k12.ca.us . There is no limit to how many guests a senior may invite to the senior awards ceremony. Seniors should dress to impress for this evening.
Marine Corps Scholarship Presentation
The U.S. Marine Corps will make a scholarship presentation in the Career Center during lunch on May 8th. Bring your lunch and learn how you can go to college on a scholarship from the U.S. Marine Corps.
Assist-a-grad in full swing
Assist-a-grad 2001 is going strong with 101 seniors competing for scholarships. It's not too late to offer a scholarship. Contact Cindy Cutts in the Career Center to find out how you or your business can offer a scholarship to a deserving senior. Assist-a-grad interviews will be held May 15 and May 16 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Students report to the Career Center and then on to various interviews across campus. Remember to dress to impress for a scholarship interview. Assist-a-grad interview schedules are available in the Career Center.
Assist-a-grad scholarship sponsors include RHS Booster Club, Rocklin Professional Teachers' Association, RUSD Administrators, Rocklin Police Officers' Association, Rocklin High School staff members, California Scholastic Federation, Rocklin Hydraulics, Rocklin Rotary Club, Rocklin Lions Club, Rocklin Kiwanis Club, Yamasaki Landscape Architecture, Longs' Drugs, McDonalds Restaurant, Spiritual Community Center, Berco Redwood, Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce, Remax Professionals, John Brophy, Economic and Planning Systems, Oracle Corporation, Carpenter Advanced Ceramics, The John Taylor Family, Robin Trimble, and Dr. Nancy Archibald.
Academic Conference for Underclassmen - High achieving freshmen and sophomores are invited to attend the CSU Academic Conference at CSU Stanislaus May 15th. Lunch is provided.
Tutors needed - The after-school tutoring program is going strong. Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:35 to 4 p.m. RHS students are available to tutor students in a variety of subjects. But more student tutors are needed. Please contact the Career Center if you know of a student who would like to share their talents with another student. Community service hours can be earned for tutoring. Call Sally Randazzo in the Career Center at 632-1600 ext. 420 for more information.
